So to relieve the boredom, I am pleased to present the second annual Kovy awards, where we get to harp on some of the more dubious achievements of the past year.
The awards are as follows:
The Rangers Memorial Cup
awarded to the league's most overrated team
The Alexandre Daigle Memorial Trophy:
awarded to the league's most overrated player
(Not to be confused with the most overPAID player)
The Alexei Yashin Memorial Trophy:
awarded to the league's most overpaid player
The Jerry Seinfeld Award:
awarded to the league's most overpaid player
The Jerry Seinfeld Award:
awarded to the most obnoxious, asshole fans in the league
The Barry Melrose Award:
awarded to the league's most obnoxious douchebag broadcaster
The Mario Tremblay Memorial Trophy:
awarded to the league's worst coach

Detroit (epic fail in the playoffs), WAS (1st round bust), SJ (just bc they should be here every yr.)

Phil Kessel (the mighty goal scorer helped the Bruins land Tyler Seguin), Mike Green (I thought a defenseman was supposed to play “Defense”?), Scott Gomez (Keeping Koivu would have been cheaper and more productive)
The Alexei Yashin Memorial Trophy:
Tim Thomas ($5 million a yr for a backup)!!!!!!!
The Jerry Seinfeld Award:
PHI (do I actually have to reason this?), EDM (dark horse but Tyler Seguin is ACTUALLY what EDM needed in the draft but EDM had to draft Hall bc there would have been riots if not), CAR (where were all their fans this yr with their shitty ass team!?!?)
The Barry Melrose Award:
Jack Edwards (How I hate thee)
The Mario Tremblay Memorial Trophy:
John Stevens (Fired 1/3 into the season from the team who made it to the Cup finals)
The Gary Bettman Trophy:
EDM (god awful this yr), NYI (wasted cap space this season by having 3 starting goalies signed), TOR (gave up Tyler Seguin who “could” be the nxt Steve Yzerman, another 1st round pick nxt season that most likely will be another top-10, another 2nd round pick, all for Phil Kessel.
The Gorton's Fisherman Memorial Trophy:
LA 3rd uni, TOR (thank god theyre goin back to the stripes this season), FLA 3rd uni (when, why, and how did FLA decide that powder blue fit their logo?)
The Claude Lemieux Trophy:
Matt Cooke (he’s a dirty f*ck)
The Coyote Cup
